The score does not say why
A Writing band, or a single number from a checker, does not show which sentences cost the points.
Academic IELTS · Writing
Arete is for adults preparing for Academic IELTS on their own. The Android app is on Google Play. It already has timed Listening and Reading practice with explanations. We are building a Writing check that quotes your own sentences and shows an estimated band range. That check is not in the app yet.
Writing feedback is not available yet
The problem
Candidates who are stuck around Band 6 to 6.5 in Writing usually know the score. They cannot see which part of the essay held it there, or what to change before test day.
A Writing band, or a single number from a checker, does not show which sentences cost the points.
A sample answer shows a stronger essay. It does not show what to change in yours.
“Grammar” or “vocabulary” is hard to act on when the test is a few weeks away.
More study only helps if you can tell whether the last essay actually moved.
What Arete does
The useful part of a Writing check is evidence from your own text: a range for each criterion, the sentences behind it, and a revision that shows what changed. That loop is the product we are building. It is not in the app today.

The Writing check comes next.
How it works
Arete – IELTS Prep is the Android app. It is free to start. Questions go to support@areteielts.com, the address on the Play listing and in the app.
Those sets are in the app, with scores and explanations. Writing tasks save a draft and show a sample answer. Speaking prompts record on the device. Neither is graded.
The planned path is to paste an essay you already wrote, or to start from a prompt. The result will be labeled a practice estimate, not an official IELTS score. This step is not open.
After feedback, you would revise and resubmit. The planned screen shows which criterion moved. That comparison does not exist yet.
Practice
The content bank is small: seven Listening sets, seven Reading sets, and a handful of Writing tasks. It is enough to practice. It is not a large course.
Practice sets and timed tests. Answers are scored in the app, with explanations in the content.
The same pattern as Listening: timed practice, a score, and explanations.
Tasks include Task 2 essays and Academic Task 1. You can save a draft and read a sample answer. Nothing evaluates the draft.
Prompts with on-device recording and playback. No transcript and no score.
Short topics you can read in the app. This is reference material, not a placement test.
A trial exam produces a band from Listening and Reading only. Writing and Speaking are left blank.
Planned
These pieces are the ones we intend to build first. They are not in the product. Speaking evaluation, a generated study plan, and a chat tutor are not part of this page because they are further out.
Not available
Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy, each as a range with a reason.
Not available
The sentences that drove a criterion, highlighted, so you can see the basis of the estimate.
Not available
A single edited sentence for a weak criterion, plus a short list of fixes. Not a model essay to memorize.
Not available
Submit a rewrite and see which criterion moved. History of those ranges comes with that work.
Product preview
There is no product screenshot of Writing feedback, because the screen has not been built. The card below uses the app’s colors, type, and card shape so you can see the intended layout.

Task 2 estimate
6.0–6.5
Practice estimate, not an official IELTS score. Examiners can disagree. Use a range to find what to fix, not to predict test day. The numbers here are placeholders.
Example reason: the essay answers only part of the question.
Example reason: the paragraphs are present, the links between them are thin.
Example reason: the same few words carry the argument.
Example reason: sentences are clear, and the structures rarely vary.
“Many people think remote work is always better, but this paragraph only repeats that claim.”
Example quote. A real result would use a sentence from the essay you submitted.
FAQ
Adults preparing for Academic IELTS, especially people studying without a regular teacher who need a result around Band 6.5 to 7.5 and feel stuck on Writing. We are not starting with candidates under 18, with general English learners, or with beginners who are still below about Band 5.
It does not work yet, because it is not in the app. There is no model call, no essay scoring, and no speaking transcript. The Writing check we are building would return an estimated range on the four official criteria, with reasons and sentences from the essay. Until that ships, a Writing draft is only saved.
No. A future estimate would be a practice estimate, not an official IELTS score, and not a prediction of your test day result. Arete is not an examiner and is not a partner of the IELTS organisations. The band some people see after onboarding today is a lookup from the English level they typed. It is not an assessment.
Listening and Reading practice does not require a target band. The Writing check, when it exists, is aimed at people who can already write about 250 words in English and who are around Band 5.5 to 6.5. Earlier than that, a score estimate is a weak next step. You need teaching, not a number.
Arete is on Google Play for Android: Arete – IELTS Prep. There is no App Store listing. This page works in a phone, tablet, or desktop browser.

Next step
The Android app is free to start. Listening and Reading practice is in it today. The Writing check that quotes your essay is not.
